What made this session special? Film inspired @fujifilm vibes all day long – this gave the images a retro beach night, full of black and white photos, movement & new england beach vibes.
What made this couple’s session kick ass?
Planning to do their engagement session at a location that is special to them, but kept an open mind when we switched locations for inspiration. Picking a spot that has the potential, and then a backup spot near by. I loved how during this particular session, we started off @ryeharborstatepark and then moved down the road to take photos on Jenness State Beach (Rye, NH).
Halfway through my couples session, I planned for golden hour photos on a beach setting. The amazing part about picking this time of day? The blue of the sky, reflecting off the water and the sand… with amazing warmth of the sun going down… Epic to inspire film -esk edits.
The best thing? Bring some outfits that you feel ready to move in. Gone are the days (or just my personal style) of stiff couple’s portraits. I want running, swinging, laughing and embracing like you’re never going to hugged your partner again (heavy, I know, but I want raw emotion). We always get a photo for grandma’s fridge. The rest are yours to tell a story.
Why I am obsessed with Rye, NH for engagement and elopement photos?
location is filled with endless coastline, massive seacoast homes (architecture from the most amazing designers) and a beautiful opportunity in early summer to take advantage of the quiet beach location. Best time to take engagement photos in Rye, NH? Late April & early May. On a friday night, we ran into few people walking on the beach during low tide.
The rule of having an idea but not getting stuck in ideas to make your session creative? Portsmouth within 15-20 mins of the beach. Boston is 30 mins. There are so many amazing options close by.
