PORTFOLIO

I am so lucky to work within an industry that allow for me to interact with many different talents. I have been asked by serval makeup and hair stylists what are the best cameras they can use for content creation (think after they provide services and want to build their portfolio gallery). Here are the top 5 cameras I would recommend that offer quality photos for the creatives that don’t want to heavily invest in gear.

Cameras under $1000

1. DLSR Canon EOS Rebel T7 w/Kit lens EF-S 18-55mm (currently listed | $399.00)

The camera body/ kit lens duo will allow for those who wish to play around for lighting and lens range. Perfect for portraits that you would see in makeup artist galleries. There is a bit of a learning curve when venturing away from Auto, but that’s for you to decide how much you want to play around with it. This camera will also allow for video to be taken.

  •  24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor with ISO 100-6400 (H: 12800).
  •  Built-in Wi-Fi* and NFC** Technology.
  •  9-point AF System and AI Servo AF.
  •  Optical Viewfinder with Approx. 95% Viewing Coverage.
  •  3.0-inch LCD with 920,000 Dots.
  •  Scene Intelligent Auto Mode.

2. PowerShot G1 X Mark III  (currently listed | $999.00)

Super handy – this camera is an all in one – allowing for those who just want to click and go. loved by all. Fits easily in a kit and allows for those to take quality photos with out all the gear or intimidation of camera body and lenses.

  •  24.2 Megapixel* CMOS (APS-C) Sensor.
  •  3x Zoom Lens (24–72mm^^) with Optical Image Stabilizer.
  •  Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection.
  •  DIGIC 7 Image Processor, ISO 100–25600.
  •  Built-in EVF with Touch and Drag AF.
  •  3.0-inch Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD.

3. Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III Digital Camera (currently listed | $699.99)

https://www.bhphotovideo.com is selling the model at current price.

Focal Length8.8 to 36.8mm (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 24 to 100mm)

Maximum Aperturef/1.8 to 2.8

This camera will give the creatives ability to play around with a lower aperture, allowing crisper images with background blur. The ability for low light seems really lovely and I think this camera could go up against the Powershot G1 x mark III without the amateur noticing anything but the price difference.

4. Panasonic Lumix DCZS80 Digital Camera (currently listed | $397.99)

4.3 to 129mm (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 24 to 720mm) equivalent to a 35mm lens. This is perfect for portrait style gallery building qualities. The low light capabilities are good and should allow for ease of use during wedding or other shoots with moderate lighting.

4. Olympus Tough TG-6 Digital Camera (currently listed | $499.99)

  •  12MP BSI CMOS Sensor
  •  TruePic VIII Image Processor
  •  Olympus 4x Optical Zoom f/2 Lens
  •  25-100mm (35mm Equivalent)

“Characterized by its exceedingly durable design, the red Tough TG-6 from Olympus is a sleek point-and-shoot capable of handling a wide variety of adventures. Featuring a 12MP BSI CMOS sensor and TruePic VIII image processor, the TG-6 offers notable image clarity and low-light performance to ISO 12800, along with fast 20-fps.” – Bh photo video

5. Sony ZV-1F (currently listed | $765.57)

This camera is used by vloggers and creatives alike.

“Specifically designed for vloggers and online content creators, the Sony ZV-1F Vlogging Camera is a pocket-sized camera with a large 1″ sensor and a 20mm-equivalent wide-angle lens. The camera allows you to snap a group selfie with an expansive view of the background scenery and get everything in the frame, even at arm’s length.” – Bh photo video

Hopefully these cameras give some thought to those of you looking to search for better quality content other than smart phone cameras. I think the diverse budget is helpful for those of you who wish to invest gradually. You can also rent cameras to see if there are specific things you want to try out.

Remember – always ask your photographers and couples to share images of your work. As a wedding professional, I also make sure my couples know I share my work with the other vendors and creative partners. Spread the love <3
